Assists in the management and supervision of staff in the HIM coding training program preparing coders with the knowledge and skills necessary to move upward within the coder hierarchy (from outpatient to outpatient surgery coding and/or form outpatient surgery to inpatient coding) and/or educating level entry coders that have a coding certificate without experience. Supports revenue cycle by ensuring coder trainee meets performance standards for timely billing meeting account receivable goals and appropriate reimbursement in accordance to CMS, OIG, and BHSF policies. Supervises approximately five to seven employees at different levels of experience and coding knowledge. Responsible for educating overall coding staff with annual coding updates and providing quarterly coding in-services.

Required Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management Administration (RHIA) or degree in Health Information Management Technologist (RHIT) or equivalent and Coding Certified Specialist (CCS). At least five years education experience and supervisory experience. Minimum ten years coding experience for inpatient and outpatient coding in a large healthcare institution required. Excellent leadership, verbal and written communication, problem-solving and personnel management skills. Knowledgeable in DRG and APC reimbursement methodologies and hospital's revenue cycle, ICD-9 and CPT-4 coding conventions, pathophysiology. Proficient in health information systems, database management, spreadsheet design, and computer technology.
