Job Summary:
The Education Coordinator manages the operations of the assigned department.These duties include: recommending a sufficient number of qualified and competent persons to provide services, providing for orientation, in-service training, and continuing education of all persons in the department, participating in selecting outside sources for needed services, and managing the financial and business and ethical aspects of the department.The Director collaborates with senior management, medical staff, and department directors to create a climate and structure that encourages staff to set and achieve goals in providing quality and cost-effective services to both internal and external customers.
Essential Duties:
Assesses the education needs of the facility based on quality improvement and risk management data, innovations in clinical care delivery and technology, regulatory requirements, the performance goals of the facility, and feedback from staff and management.
In collaboration with the entire management team, develops an annual education plan based on the assessment of needs.At minimum, the plan must include orientation of new employees, competency assessment, and education response to quality management information.
Implements the education plan to include appropriate utilization of staff resources and assistance to departments in developing unit-based education / competency programs.
Evaluates the education program on an ongoing basis.This evaluation includes how the education plan was implemented as well as the effect of education on the performance of the entire organization (quality and facility outcomes).
Coordinates the patient and family education program to include support for developing materials and insuring that materials are coordinated between departments providing similar services as well as with other facilities.
Teaches classes as needed utilizing principles of adult learning and critical thinking.Assists others with class preparation.
Coordinates education activities with outside agencies including schools and other facilities.
If acting as a clinical specialist, is competent in the clinical area of expertise.
Minimum Requirements:
Florida RN License
Masters degree preferred
BLS, ACLS and PALS Instructor Certifications
At least 5 years of management experience
3-5 years of clinical nursing experience required
Customer service abilities including effective listening skills
Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast paced environment
Ability to perform work that requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving, lifting of patients and/or equipment up to 50 pounds
