Create designs for the start up of a new Contemporary brand. Responsible for setting the brand's direction including seasonal themes, fabric, print, color and silhouette. Execute seasonal fashion trend strategies that support merchant objectives and the Macy's brand. Responsible for all aspects of design including trend, color flow and fabrication.
Key Accountabilities:
Drive start up of new Brand
Set and drive the brand's seasonal fashion direction.
Develop merchandise strategies and utilize trend information to develop into cohesive collections.
Provide leadership and direction to Design, Product Teams and Buyers through fashion trend expertise.
Lead the research and development of seasonal trends.
Partner with other Design Teams, R&D, and Merchants to share information on emerging trends to ensure synergy and consistency within a brand.
Shop markets for new merchandise, trend ideas and design inspirations (materials, fashion, color).
Interpret seasonal fashion direction, assortment opportunities and merchandise trends as appropriate for the brand.
Develop vendor partnerships inclusive of design
Produce cohesive product presentations, including boards, tear sheets and samples.
Buy Meeting - responsible for visual set-up, lifestyle and design presentation.
Ensure designs meet merchant line plans, assortment strategies and overall creative direction.
Edit the product line with product team ensuring program and style plans are supported by appropriate product.
Collaborate with Marketing on development of new packaging, brand/label and hangtag needs.
Attend Brand Concept and Strategy Meetings.
Skills Summary:
Minimum of 10 years of design experience; five in a leadership role
Minimum of 5 years experience in the Contemporary market
Experience in a brand that has successfully translated into a large scale customer base preferred
Proficiency in PC and MAC, MS office, Illustrator and Photoshop.
Working knowledge of CAD software and Internet.
Strong color sense/print sense.
Technical knowledge of fabric construction.
Bachelor's Degree in Design or Fine Arts.
